INFORMATION ABOUT MEMBERSHIP
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16, although some experience of singing and music reading is helpful.
There are no auditions, and prospective members are invited to attend 2 or 3 rehearsals free of charge to see how they get on.
Members under the age of 18 are not required to pay Subs.
Prospective members should contact the Membership Secretary to express interest, or with any queries.
REHEARSALS AND CONCERTS
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7.45 to 9.30 in the Longford Park Community Centre in Bodicote, near Banbury. Postcode: OX15 4GJ.
We perform 3 or 4 concerts a year in usually in Deddington and occasionally in Bloxham.
COACHING
We offer regular optional group coaching sessions, at no extra charge, covering music theory, sight reading, vocal technique etc to any members who are interested in furthering their musical development. These take place two or three times a term, lasting for 30 minutes before weekly rehearsal.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
We pride ourselves on our friendly and sociable culture. Our spacious rehearsal hall allows plenty of opportunity for people to move around and socialise before rehearsal, and during the 10 minute mid-evening break. We hold a summer evening members' get-together in a local pub garden on the Tuesday after our June concert, and a Christmas evening members' get-together at the Community Centre on the Tuesday after our December concert, when we have mulled wine and mincepies and sing carols together.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Subs are payable for each session, and include score hire.
Subs vary depending on the length of the rehearsal period. The subs cover all our weekly running costs (rehearsal venue hire, Music Director's fee, Repetiteur's fee, insurance, Making Music subscription [for website and email hosting] and music hire fees). The cost of concerts is met by ticket and refreshment sales and sponsorship.
Members are encouraged to pay their subs online but can also pay by card, cash or cheque at a rehearsal.
SCORES
The cost of music hire is included in the termly subscription.
Members are responsible for returning their copies after the concert, with all markings erased. Those who wish to use their own copies must have the appropriate edition.
CONCERT DRESS CODE
Ladies: All black, short or long sleeves. Unobtrusive jewellery
Gents: DJ and black bow tie.
Any variation to this will be announced before the event.
